Abstract: This paper took the Wuchang city of Heilongjiang province as the study area. The authors applied a series of MODIS imageries selected from the transplanting to the maturity of rice growth stage to calculate the NDVI values.Subsequently, the corresponding LAI values could be retrieved from NDVI so as to fit the daily LAI values for whole rice growth phase. With the application of SIMRIW model agronomic parameters, the daily LAI values were input into SIMRIW model to compute the paddy rice yield per unit under the condition of low temperature for the year 2006.The results showed that the final paddy rice yield per unit for the year 2006 was 5411.74kg/ha which accounted for 84% of the actual value. The study result proved feasibility of accurate retrieving of the daily LAI from MODIS characterized by high temporal resolution and provided the reference for the research in the field of the effect of cold damage on paddy rice yield per unit.
