Effect of Nano-TiO2Photocatalysis on Yield and Quality of Hydroponic Lettuce

Abstract: The effect of nano-TiO2photocatalysis on removal of phytotoxic substances in reused nutrient solution and its effect on contents of effective Fe,Mn,Zn element in reused nutrient solution and thegrowth of hydroponic lettuce were studied. The results showed that nano-TiO2photocatalysis could effectively remove the phytotoxic sub-stances in nutrient solution,but decreased the contents of effective Fe,Mn,Zn element in nutrient solution,especial-ly for Fe;lettuce total yield and the average plant fresh weight were increasedgreatly compared to control;the chlo-rophyll,Vc and soluble sugar contents in lettuce leaf also had improved compared to control,but the total phenolic and flavonoid contents in lettuce leaf were lower than those of control. Nano-TiO2photocatalytsis could effectively re-duce the phyotoxic substances accumulated in nutrient solution and promote thegrowth of hydroponic lettuce. There-fore,it will havegreat application prospects in closed soilless culture system.
