Abstract: Using the substitution lines of A genome in which the chromosomes of Chinese Spring (CS) to be replaced by the corresponding ones of Synthetic 6, a abiotic stress resistant line of wheat, as the experimental materi- als, the effects of A genome on plant nitrogen use efficiency under low-N condition were evaluated. The results indi- cated that the donor synthetic 6 had lower plant dry matter weight and higher nitrogen content than CS under low-N condition. The plant dry matter weights and nitrogen contents of the substitution lines in which the chromosomes of A genome were replaced by the donor showed the values between the CS and the donor. Of which,6A had the lowest decrease range compared with CS and the highest increase range compared with donr on plant dry matter weight, whereas 5A had the highest decrease range compared with CS and the lowest increase range compared with donr on plant dry matter weight. The plant notrogen contents of 2A and 6A were significantly higher than CS. But no signifi- cant differences on the plant nitrogen contents were found between the other substitution lines with CS. Under low-N condition, the plant accumulative N amounts of 6A and 2A were both significantly higher than CS and donor. Taken together, the results in this study clearly demonstrated that there existed significant chromosome effects on nitrogen uptake capacity in wheat plants under the low-N condition. The 6A and 2A of donor synthetic 6 carry the high-N use related genes that are involved in withstanding the low-N stress.
