Abstract: Tomato lines including 11 landraces from America and Europe ( A group), 21 entries from old cultivars planted in some districts of China during 1950-1980 ( B group), and 12 inbred lines ( C group) were used to study their diversity in physical and chemical characteristics. Experimental results showed that there were very significant differences among genotypes in 11 tested traits. However, most traits generally displayed a low wide heritability. Comparing with A group, B group had a bigger but softer fruit, lower puree and soluble solid content, less lycopene. The diversity of quality characteristic and potential of improving quality were dis- cussed.
