Effect of IgY Treatment on Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus(PEDV) in Piglets

Abstract: IgY against PEDV was obtained from egg yolk of chickens immunized with PEDV. Then I gY was puri fied by chloroform extrac tion and ammonium sulfate precipitation.After challenge exposures to PEDV, the neonatal piglets were treated orally wi th IgY solution in the antibodyt reatment group and with normal sal t solution in the control group af ter the occurrence of diarrhea.The mortali ty rate and the fecal scoring were used to evaluate the dif ference between the antibody treatment group and the control group. The experiment showed that the mortality rate was 100% in the cont rol group, whereas only 16. 7% in the ant ibody treatment group.The result indicates that IgY can be effectively used for piglet diarrhea.
