Abstract: With semivariogram analysis, this paper s tudied vertical variabi li ty of soil water of dif ferent texture and different ferti li ty in the suburb of Bei jing. The resul ts of semivariogram analysis showed: when cul tivating wheat in winter and corn in summer, the range of vertical variabili ty of soil water was 50-60 cm, the de gree of heterogenei ty changing with the depth. The nugget variance to sil l ratio was 1. 41%-9. 26%, les s than 25%, which meant that soil water had higher autocorrelation in the range of vertical variabili ty. For di fferent texture, the lower autocorrela t ion and smal ler range of vertical variabili ty, the heavier of the texture of soil.As for dif ferent fertili ty, the degree of autocorrelation and range of vertical variabi li ty increased wi th the fertility. These resul ts have an important effect on the management and util ization of soi l water in fields. Moreover, to a definite accuracy the field work in soil water in practicewill be reduced on the basis of the rules of vertical variabili ty of soil water.
