Abstract: Yield performance ef fects of underground irrig at ion and sow ing pat tern for dryland w heat were studied in 1997-1999 in Fushan county of Shanx i. The result s show ed that the yield-increasing ef fect of underground irrigat ion w as g reater than that of sow ing pat tern. Irrigation increased yield by 19 4%. Compared w ith the convent ional sowing pattern, the punctured-sow ing and narrow-spaced drilling had a y ield advantage of 15 9% and 14 6% respect ively . Further ana-lysis indicated that obvious synerg et ic ef fect w as existed betw een underg round irrig at ion and narrow-spaced drilling, which reached up to a yield increase of 33 9% over the conventional sow ing pat tern without irrig at ion.
