Abstract: 13 sorghum varieties were planted in both rich and poor soil.Analytic results revealed that the variance of the nine characters concerned washighly significant among varieties. The state of soil fertility does not affect the variance. The ranges of genetic variance of the characters in both soils are basically the same, but the genetic variance coefficients for the characters in both soils are quite different from each other. The more the coefficient is,the more the sensitivity the character to the soil is.Some characters are undesirable properties to the dry land and poor soil, but they mean large room of improving potential. The length of spikehad minimum genetic variance coefficient. The result provided a foundation for the selection of sorghum resistance material and made the genetic evaluation of sorghum resources more profoundly and more comprehensively.
