Characters of Regenerated Plants of Male Sterile Lines and Hybrids in Seteria italica

Abstract

Abstract: The regenerated plants(R₁ and R₂) from embryogenic calli of male sterile lines and their hybrids in Seteria italica were investigated. Compared with their parents, their plant height was reduced, ear length shorten, ear shape compacted and the number of tillers and branches increased. Some plants with unusual morphological characters, some plants with better plant shape, some plants with higher insect resistence emerged from the R₁ and R₂ generations. The sterility of regenerated male sterile plants were enhanced. There appeared three rows of R₂ plants with plumper and bigger grains.
