Studies on the Nutrient Quality of Variety Resources of Broomcorn Millet and Proso Millet in China

Abstract: In this paper, the contents of protein, fat and lysine of 4213 broomcorn millet and proso millet varieties from many provinces (or regions) of China were analysed, 126 high protein varieties, 45 high fat varieties, 17 high lysine varieties and 45 high quality varieties were selected, The results showed that most of the varieties with high protein, high lysine or high quality grew in Shanxi.The quality of broomcorn millet was different from that of proso millet, The contents of protein, fat and lysine of broomcorn millet were higher than those of proso millet, The quality of broomcorn millet and proso millet varieties was related with seed colour. The quality of red seeds was the best, while that of brown seeds took the second place.
