Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the water-nitrogen interaction at tillering stage on aroma, grain yield and rice qualities. A field experiment was conducted with three conventional aromatic rice cultivars,Nongxiang 18(indica),Basmati 385(indica) and Y-14(japonica),three water treatments(W1,well-watered,4- 6 cm; W2,intermittent irrigation, the minimum water potential was- 10 kPa; W3,moderate soil drying, the minimum water potential was- 20 kPa) and three nitrogen treatments:(N1,0 kg / ha; N2,30 kg / ha; N3,60 kg / ha,at tillering stage) were used in this study,to evaluate the effects of the water-nitrogen interaction at tillering stage on 2-AP content in brown rice, grain yield and rice qualities. The results showed that water-nitrogen interaction had an significant influence on 2-AP content in brown rice. The treatment W3 and N3 significantly improved the 2-AP content, Under W3N3 treatment,Nongxiang 18,Basmati 385 and Y-14 achieved the highest 2-AP content,up to 17. 69, 30. 60,23. 15 ng / g,respectively, followed by W2N3. W2N3 treatment harvested highest grain yield than other treatments, except for Y-14. At tillering stage, wet irrigation and using the right amount of tillering nitrogen(60 kg / ha) can improve grain yield and 2-AP content in brown rice together.
