Abstract: The ferula (Ferula sinkiangensis) is a traditional herbal medicine in China. Its main active components are volatile oils and gums. The effects of chloroform extracts of ferula on hyphae growth and spore germination of seven pathogens (Bipolaris maydis, Curvularia lunata, Alternaria tenuis, Bipolaris carbonum, Fusarium moniliforme, Fusarium spp, Ustsilago maydis) in maize were studied in this article. The growth rate method and spores germination method were used to determine the activities. The results showed that the chloroform extracts of ferula has significant antibacterial activity on tested pathogens, while effects on spores germination were higher than that on hyphae growth. The effect on hyphae growth of Fusarium moniliforme was better, EC50=46.66 mg/L. The chloroform extracts of ferula can beget abnormality of big and medium conidiophores.
