Abstract: A kenaf comparative test including 42 F1 obtained from a 6×7 NCⅡ(North Carolina)diallel cross, and 13 parental varietes, was carried out in the research farm of Institute of Bast Fibre Crops,CAAS,during 1993 to 1994.The heterosis of varietal cross and its relation to parents was investigated. The results indicate that the heterosis of varietal cross F1 in kenaf is obvious, the dominance for most economic traits of F1 is highly significant, and among an traits studied, fibre weight per plant takes the first place.Fibre yield perplant is highly affected by green weight, then base diameter, basal thickness and plant height respectively. Each trait of a hybrid combination is differently affected by each parent. The Correlation coefficient of fibre yield per plant between F1 and high value parent (P1) is positive and highly significant while it is significantly positive between F1 and low value parent (P2).The basic criteria used to select the parents for making a kenaf promising hybrid combination is recommended as fellows:Both two parenfs should be high in plant height and fibre yield per plant, and one of them must have high values in basal thickness, base diamefer and fibre rate.
