Abstract: The research on anther culture ability for 300 conventional parents of winter wheat and their F1 progenies showed that the frequencies of callus induction and greenplantlet differentiation were controlled by different genes. The calli induced from F1 progenies demonstrated an obvious additive effect and hybrid vigor ,and the greenplantlet differentiation rate of the F1 progenies was between their parental pairs.Anther culture ability of the anther cultured progenies was found obviously higher than that of the conventional parents. The anther culture ability was severely affected by environmental conditions. The callus induction rate of the plants normally grown in the field was much higher than that of the plants grown in the greenhouse in winter. Some varieties with good anther culture ability, such as Jinghua No1, Ns2625 and 813 ① 21 2 3 had been selected, which could be used as bridge varieties in wheat breeding Via anther culture.
