Analyses on Combining Abilities of Main Economical Characters in Cauliflower(Brassica oleracea var.boirgtis)

Abstract

Abstract: Studies have been carried out on combining abilities of 10 economical characters by the method of 6×6 biserial cross on cauliflower(Brassica oleracea var boirgtis).Results showed that characters of beginning of heading stage,maturity,plant height,plant expansion,biological yield of single plant and leaf blade numbers were considerably controlled by non additive genes.The economical yield of single plant,diameter,vertical length and compactness of flower head were considerably controlled by additive genes.There was no obvious relationship between normal combining abilities and special combining abilities of parents,although both of them significantly decided characters of F 1 generation,especially the special combining abilities.It was suggested that attention should be paid both to special combining abilities and normal combining abilities when selecting parents for breeding practice.
