Abstract: The effects of root cutting in different depths on root system distribution, senescence character and yield of peanut were studied by using the box culture method. The results showed that:Moderate root-cutting could control the root system growth too fast at early stage and delay the root dry weight decreased at late stage.Especially,it promoted the root growth in deep soil and increased the proportion of middle and lower segment of root system.Moderate root-cutting would reduce root senescence by delaying the occurring time of the maximum of root vigor, superoxide dismutase (SOD),peroxidase (POD) activity and the rate of decline of them. And moderate root-cutting would reduce the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in root system of each soil layer.Moderate root-cutting could improve significantly valid pods, pod yield, seed yield, but excessive root-cutting did not have this effect. This research suggested that the moderate depth of root-cutting was between 10 to 15 cm.
