Abstract: Rice varieties of Dongdao 4 and Changbai 9 were used to study the growth and development characteristics and panicle traits planted in saline lkaline soil. The results showed that compared with Changbai 9,which is the chief rice variety planted in Jilin Province, both the aboveground and underground biomass of Dongdao 4 were heavier with the plant still alive when maturing. Besides, the specific leaf weights of main functional leaves of Dong-dao 4 were significantly higher whose leaves were still green long after harvested. What's more,Dongdao 4 had a stronger root system which degenerated later while planted in the same condition. The panicle traits analysis results showed that, with more primary branches, more fulfilled grains in the primary branches, higher seed setting rate of the secondary branches, heavier 1000-rains weight, Dongdao 4 had superiority in the panicle traits especially under saline-lkaline stress.
