Abstract: Germination characteristic at seedling stage and dry matter production and distribution in different parts under different water stress treatments of different maize hybrids through the growth season was studied in lab and greenhouse, the main results was that relative growth of germ and radicle, and storage matter transport rate of maize hybrids were downtrend, however, root cap ratio of that showed an increasing tendency with increasing of water stress.Compare with other cultivars, relative growth of radicle and storage matter transport rate of Liaodan 539 were relative high at the same water stress treatment, increased rang of root cap ratio of Liaodan 539 was lager than that at normal water stress treatment(0 MPa).Dry matter weight of different parts of maize hybrids at filling stage was ear﹥stem﹥leaf﹥leaf sheath﹥root﹥tassel.Compared with SS treatment, dry matter of stem decreased significantly, however, that of ear increased rapidly at CK treatment.Variation of vegetative organs/reproductive organs dry matter ratio of Liaodan 527,Liaodan 539 and Liaodan 31 were lightly compared with other cultivars, among of them, vegetative organs/reproductive organs dry matter ratio of Liaodan 539 was relatively small. The ear dry matter distribution rate of Liaodan 539 was higher than that of other cultivars at different water stress treatment at filling stage, which had drought tolerant and high yield potential.
