Abstract: This study discussed the difference of two treatments with two type of practice: topping and pruning, without topping and pruning. In each case, two cotton cultivars ( a mid late-maturity cultivar Ji668 and a mid earlymaturity cultivar C30) were used. It was noted that cotton height, main stem nodes, LAI, and squares were lower inthe topping and pruning treatment than the control. Higher number of retained bolls, possibly resulting from a significant reduction in abscised fruit sites was observed in the topping and pruning treatment. Though total dry matter production dropped, however, more dry matter allocation to reproductive organs was noted, which increased boll growthin the topping and pruning treatment. It was observed that cotton lint yield increased with cotton boll number. However, differences in boll size and lint percentage between the two treatments were insignificant. Cultivars under thesame treatment showed similar trends but morphological differences between different treatment and control werebigger for the late-maturity cultivar Ji668 than for the early-maturity cultivar C30.
