Abstract: The effect of spermidine on soybean seedlings underwater stress was investigated. The results showed that under water stress, the Spd in leaves increased much more markedly in drough-t tolerant Yudou No.24 than in drough-t sensitive Yudou No.6.Treatment of methylglyoxa-l bis(guanylhydaione) (MGBG),an s-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (Which catalyzes the Spd synthesis) inhibitor, brought about aparent reduction of Spd in leaves of Yudou No.24 seedlings subjected to water stress, which was in concert with the decrease of its seedling resistance to stess.Exogenous Spd could reverse MGBG injury effect on Yudou No.24 seeddlings under stress.Furthermore, exogenous Spd could elevate the endogenous.Spd level in leaves of Yudou No.6 seedlings subjected to water stress and alleviate its injury. The results above suggested that Spd could enhance resistance of soybean seedling subjected to water stress.
