Application Research of Canonical Correlation Analysis in Sorghum Breeding

Abstract: The nineteen characters were subsumed in chareter groups which was analysed by the canonical correlation of genotypical value; meanwhile overall selecting index for the indirect improvement of much quality was established.The result indicated that the most important factor for the yield of sorghum is grain weight per spike and less important factor is grain number per spike.The significant negative correlation existed between the grain weight per spike and grain number per spike.In yield breeding of sorghum we should take the increment of grain weight per spike as prinapal breeding but in quality breeding for the increment of starch content and select the material with strong stalk,less grain number per spike,appropriate height.The characters which have influence on the correlat ion are heading period,flow ering period,height,width of stalk,number of leaves,grain weight per spike,protein content,volume-weight per keration etc,for seleting highyielding and high-quality sorghuncultivar,must take attention to the selection of these charaters.
