Abstract: Eight different cytoplasmic male sterile lines and their corresponding maintainer lines were crossed respectively with nine restorer lines harbouring dominant R-genes Xa-3, Xa-4, Xa-7and Xa-21 with P×Q mating design. Seventy-two male sterile line hybrids and maintainer line hybrids were inoculated with strong and weak virulent XOO isolates ZHE-173 and KS-6-6 for purpose of probing into variant factor of resistance to bacterial blight in hybrid rice. The result showed that major gene resistance was predominant in hybrid rice, but resistance of hybrid rice was modified by other genes with additive, dominant and epistatic effect. This indicated that resistance of hybrid rice depended on the complement and pyramid of resistant genes.
