Effects of Virus Free Garlic on Yields and Field Performance

Abstract: Different generations of virus free garlic (Allium sativum) stocks of 3 local varieties,"Puke","Chaosuan" and "Gaojiaozi" were compared with infected stocks in the field experimental plots in Cangshan,Shandong province,China The virus free garlic plants possessed a stronger root system The chlorophyll content of leaves,the index of leaf surface and the dry matter weight of the plant at different developmental stages in virus free garlic were increased significantly than those of the infected control plant The yields of the flower stems and the bulbs of the virus free garlic varieties were substantially higher than those from relevant infected varieties The results showed that the virus free garlic stocks delivered from the insect proofed gauze house could be used for 5 years at least in Cangshan,Shandong.
