Abstract: Seeds of tomato(cv.zhongshu.5) were aged in sealed aluminum foil bags under 58±1 oC for 0,6,8,12 days, The germination rate(GR),vigor index(VI),mobilization efficiency(ME), electro conductivity(EC) and catalase(CAT) activity of the unaged and aged seeds were tested. Results show that as the seed ages, the declination of CAT activity is positively related to the decrease of VI, and negatively related to the increase of EC. From these results, it is concluded that CAT activity is a reliable parameter for seed vigor tests, and the optimal duration of reaction lasts 1—2 min.
