Abstract: Detached Raphanus sativus L. seedlings were exposed to 0.05ml to 1.0ml vaporized ethanol in a 0.5 L plastic jar for different times. Loss of chlorophyll, oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production were measured 4 days after ethanol treatment, loss of chlorophyll was apparently lower than contol, so were the formation of carbon dioxide and oxygem consumption, indicating that respiration reduced and delayed the senescent process.
