Abstract: The photosynthetic rate of Ya pear leaves on different branches and location was tested using improved half leaf method at different developing stages. The results indicated that the net photosynthetic rates were 16.73-33.73 and 13.56-25.74mg CO2.dm-2.h-1 respectively in leaves on the outside shoots and on the outside spurs and 4.55-9.90mg CO2.dm-2.h-1 in leaves on the inside spurs for nine year-old densely planted Ya pear trees.Continued measurements made from the late May to the late August in 2 years showed that the photosynthetic rate of the leaves on the outside shoots was higher than that of leaves on the outside spurs in large and mature trees. The photosynthetic rate of the spur leaves reached its peak in May,then decreased a little in June, and levelled off till the end of August.
