Abstract: On the basis of evaluation for the soybean resistaccc to soybean pod borer, the resistance mechanism of different soybean varieties were studied. It was found that resistance against pod borers mainly derives from the high content of silicon in the pod. The resistant soybean varieties also have the following characters. The epidemis cells of the bean pod were small quasi-round protuberances. Under the epidemis cells, there were either many layers of smaller cells, or longer cells. The segregation layer cells, of the bean pod, in the small elliptical shape and arranged closely, demonstrated strong resistance. The resistance had no relation with the thickness of the pod,the thickness of the segregation layer, and the direction of arrangement of the segregation cells.
