Abstract: Increased application of chemical fertilizer, which has broken the closed cycle of organic agriculture for thousands of years,is a prerequisite for the transition of traditional agriculture to modern agriculture.Shanxi’s increased food production is positively and closely correlated with the increased application of chemical fertilizer, the correlation coefficient being 0.9486.For further development of Shanxi’s agricultural production,it is necessary to increase the input of fertilizer,to take the road of using inorganic farming to promote the organic farming,or to effect the integration of inorganic farming with organic farming. This paper presents some different views on current ideas about this issue.

Key words: Chemical fertilizer, Agriculture
