Abstract: Based on the data of morphological and agronomic traits of 400 tree peony cultivars from Central Plains of China, the primary core germplasms, accounting for 30% of the entire accessions, were constructed by UPGMA cluster, the 400 accessions being grouped according to the floral forms and the proportion of square root within groups. The diversity index difference of 31 traits in the primary core collection and the total accessions were tested, and only flowering time presented the significant diversity index difference, indicating that the representation of the primary core collection to the total was up to 99.20% and the ratio of retained phenotype was 100%.This suggested that the primary core collection of 120 accessions could represent the genetic diversity of phenotypic traits for the entire peony varieties.
