Abstract: Three low-P tolerant maize genotypes M11,M08 and M02,and three low-P sensitive maize genotypes M06,M07 and M12 were applied to detect the effects of different zinc levels on their growth and uptake of P and Zn at seedling stage. The results demonstrated that Zn deficiency severely hindered the growing of maize.Zn deficiency had a negative influence on plant height, number of leaves and dry weight. Not only did treatment of Zn deficiency severely decreased the absorbing of P and Zn,but Zn stress had greater effect on low-P sensitive genotypes than low-P tolerant genotypes for content of Zn at seedling stage.Under Zn deficiency condition, the content of P in shoot of sensitive genotypes were significant increased, but those in root were less effected;on the other hand, the content of P was significant decreased in root of tolerant genotypes. There were differences of P utilizat ion efficiency in response to Zn deficiency among different genotypes.P utilization efficiency in shoot of sensitive genotypes was decreased but those in root of tolerant genotypes were increased.
