Abstract: The effects of irrigation management on chlorophyll(Chl)content of flag leaf were analyzed in a field study for six high-yielding winter wheat cultivars. The results showed that soil water deficit (0 - 100 cm,RSWC 40 % - 60 %) had little effect on Chl content of flag leaf during 0-14 d after anthesis, but accelerated Chl degradation at late grain filling stage. RSWC higher than 70 %of the 4 2 time- irrigation decreased Chl content and Chla/ b,and slowed the degradation rate of Chl,which treatment resulted in earlier Chl content peak compared with the other treatments.RSWC range of 60 % - 70 % was favorable for higher Chl content. Cultivars of SX733,SX703,SM15 and SM12 were sensitive to irrigation in terns of Chl content, but JM5579 and SJZ8 responded reversely. No significant correlation was found between mean post- anthesis Chl content of flag leaves and grain yield among different irrigation treatments.Stronger positive correlation rela- tions were, however, revealed between 28 d Chl content of flag leaves and grain yield.
