Abstract: The purposes were to determine the suitable density of native grass in silage. The effect of 4 different densities(200,250,300,400 kg/m3)on the quality of native grass silage in typical steppe of Xilinguole was studied.Sensory indicators, contents of nutrients and organic acid were determined. The results indicated when native grass density was 300 kg/m3,the sensory indicators, contents of crude protein,nitrogen-free extract, the total digestible nutrition(TDN)and organic acid content were higher than other densities, and 300 kg/m3 was beneficial to native grass fermentation. Therefore, the optimum density of native grass silage was 300 kg/m3.
