Abstract: In the present study, 180 combinations derived from crosses of 60 individuals from the S2 of 2 synthetic maize populations and 3 testers were used with incomplete diallel cross design, to analyze the combining ability between the inbred progenies of different populations. The results of GCA showed that GP-5 S2 were better than GP-4 S2 in most traits except plant height, ear height, kernels per row. Most of the traits was much variance among different strains in the same population, and the variance among different individuals in the same strain in economic traits was much more than in agronomic traits. The results of SCA showed that there were different hybrid numbers of SCA effect significant difference at 0.05 or 0.01 level among different traits, and the same results was in the same traits in different S2 of populations, there was also no obvious relationship between GCA and SCA. The strains including 55, 57, 89, 93, 105, 107 exhibited a better GCA potentiality.
