Abstract: After several backcrossed by the maintainable plants in pair, CMS 22A male sterile plants were derived from cytoplasmic male sterile lines CMS 384A. The results showed that the male sterility of CMS 22A was stable, and their anthers spoiled completely. CMS 22A lines showed a high general combining ability, and a high quality. Preliminary studies were conducted on the performance, genetic behavior and utilization in hetero- sis of this cms lines. The results showed that this cms lines belonged to classic sporophytic male sterile type. The expression of the male sterility was controlled by cms cytoplasm and a pair of recessive nuclear gene. The geno- type of the CMS 22A is S( r1r1).
