Abstract: The IBDV strain BK912F 5 was obtained from imported chicken embryos adapted variant virus through CEF adaptation and it was characterized and observed for physiochemical and morphological properties respectively. The antigenic relation between BK912 and standard serotype I CJ801BKF strain was also tested. The results showed that the BK912 strain possessed basic properites of IBDV and belonged to a different subtype compared with CJ801BKF strain. The SPF chickens vaccinated with lyophilized live BK912 vaccine at 2000TCID 50 /0 2ml each bird, could protect the challenge of USA virulent variant completely. A series of tests fully proved that the BK912 was still an IBDV variant strain.
