Abstract: The studies were conduced to investigate the effect of microbe compound additives on alfalfa silage at different storage periods. Living dry bacteria for fermentation additive and lactic bacteria additive were added to bagged alfalfa silage with three different concentrations each and a control. Alfalfa silage was sampled and analyzed at 4,8,16,30 and 60 d. The results showed that the fermentation quality of alfalfa silage could be enhanced by adding microbe compound additives. The additives obviously decreased the alfalfa silage pH(P < 0. 05), and reduced the ammonia nitrogen content(P < 0. 05). But dry matter content and water soluble carbohydrate content were not affected by additives. It is concluded that the alfalfa silage added living dry bacteria for fermentation additive with 2 g /t or lactic bacteria additive with 1 g /t could get better silage quality.
