Abstract:
Maize research in Thailand was init iated by the Department of Agriculture in 1950 and Kasetsart University in 1958. The National Corn and Sorghum Research Center, Farm Suwan was set up in oder to support theThai National Corn and Sorghum research program in 1965; The Nakhon Sawan Field Crops Research Center was established in 1963 to carried out research on corn aspect. The famous Suwan1 was formed in 1969- 1972, KS23 is a broad base Synthet ic developed in 1987- 1988 that have good combining ability with strains of Suwan1, KS24 is a broad base Synthet ic developed in 1992- 1993 which was designed to serve as a heterotic counterpart of KS23, as two populations of reciprocal recurrent selection Suwan2, Suwan3, Suwan5, Sawan-Complex, NSDR for flint type grain and KS6, KS27, Caripeno DMR, KS28, Pop. 24, Pop. 28 for dent type grain were developed.Ki21, Ki45, Kei0102 were developed from elite hybrid Pacific 9, Pioneer 3013 etc. Then, six main heterotic patterns were determined and(or) used in 1982- 2006. i. e. SW1(S) C4 SW1(S) C4; SW1(S) C4 Caripeno DMR(S) C1; (Inbred line from SW1(S) C4、C8, SW3(S) C2、C3, KS6(S) C2) Mo17 derivate line for tropical germplasm,Ki21, Ki45; SW1 Pop28; (SW1, non-SW1) recycled line from elite hybrid Pioneer 3013,Kei0102, and KS24 KS23(SW1 non-SW1).
