Abstract: To study the physiological mechanism of sugar metabolism between two sugar beet genotypes(high sucrose and high yield),the character of changes in activity of sucrose-metabolizing enzymes(sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase) and their relationship to each other in developing various stages(leaves, stalks and taproots) were measured. It was observed that the process of sucrose metabolism exist in leaves stalks and taproots, the activity of sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase were different in growth period of two type sugar beet varieties, and in different part to the same varieties, according to enzymes activity change,sucrose-metabolizing intensity in taproots must be higher than those in leaves and stalks,sucrose-metabolizing enzymes activity in high sucrose sugar beet were higher than those in high yield ones, the enzymes activity difference among different type sugar beet belongs to inherent traits which could be used as a reference index in selecting sugar beet varieties.
