Abstract: Upland rice(Handao 297)and lowland rice(Yuefu)seed were employed to study the effect of coronatine on seed germination and some physiological characteristics of primary seedling after soaked in coronatine solution. The results indicated that there were dual effects of coronatine on seed germination and growth of primary seedling of upland and lowland rice, low concentration of coronatine(10-8 mol/L)promoted seed germination and growth of radicle and plumule of upland rice, enhanced water content, content of soluble sugar and soluble protein of primary seedling, whereas high concentration of coronatine(≥10-5 mol/L)showed significantly inhibited effects on seed germination and primary seedling growth of both two rice cultivars. There were different results of coronatine in different rice variety at the same condition.Either promotion or inhibition effects of coronatine on seed germination was very closed to the activity of α-amylase.
