Abstract: Naked oat (Avena nuda L. ) was experimentaly planted in nine drought land plots located in four different ecological regions in the whole country during 1989-1991, and the experimental data were analysed. The results showed that the population composed of several genotypes greatly differed in the relationship between the growth performance, the spike characters and the yield in all ecological regions. In order to develop high-yield varieties of naked oat in summer naked oat regions the stress was put on breeding the varieties with large spike and large kernel; in early autumn naked oat regions the objective was taken at cultivating the varieties with large spike; in autumn naked oat regions the oat yield could be raised only by increasing the spike number per unit area under the prerequisite of balanced development of all characters; in winter naked oat regions it was a principle to bread the varieties with large spike.
