Abstract: Experiments were carriedout on Rainier, Bing and Van cherry trees to investigate the effect of paclobutrazol on vegetative growth and flower formation of young cherry trees. Results indicated that both foliage spray with concentration higher than 125×10-8and soil drench with dosages above 0.1g/m2 effectively inhibited shoot growth.Carry-over effect was observed in the soil application treatments.Besides, application of paclobutrazol promoted flower bud induction and development. The inhibitory effect induced by foliar sprayed paclobutrazol eliminated the compensatory growth. It seems that, the more the shoot growth is inhibited, the more significantly the compensatory growth is registered.
