Abstract: In order to clear the response to Cd of different rice varieties, this paper investigated the effects of cadmium( 0.5 mmol/L) on the germination rate, germination index, vigor index, root length, shoot height and fresh weight of root and shoot of 32 rice varieties mainly cultivated in the province of Guizhou by the techniques of laboratory bioassay, and assessed the cadmium-resistant ability of rice by the synthetical effect. The results showed that after treated with 0.5 mmol/L cadmium, seed germination rate was less affected, but germination index, vigor index, root and shoot growth were restrained evidently.Cadmium had more serious impact on root than on shoot.Different rice varieties had different germination responses to cadmium.Based on their responses to cadmium, the test 32 varieties were clustered into 3 types, ie, tolerant type, medium type, and sensitive type.Zhongyou 5617, II-you 808 and Chuanjiangyou 3 were tolerant to Cd and the sensitive varieties include Zhongyou 9801,Gangyou 725,Zhongyou 293,Qianxiangyou 2000, Jinyou 425,Yixiang 1979 and Yixiangyou 101.
