Abstract: To study the effects of low temperature on panicle characters during booting stage and grain filling period, pot experiments were carried out with two japonica rice varieties, Qianchonglang 2Q and Runyu1( R), in rice institute of Shenyang Agricultural University. The results showed that panicle length, primary and secondary branch numbers, the number of grains per panicle, grain density and seed -setting rate were reduced significantly by low temperature treatment during booting stage. It was lea- f remainder 1. 0 time that there had the greatest effects on the panicle characters after low temperature treatment. Low temperature harm had little effect on primary branches number and grains number, and had large effect on secondary branches number, the seed -setting rate, the number of grains of the middle and lower parts per panicle during booting stage. Grain weight and seed -setting rate were significantly decreased by low temperature during grain -filling stage, which resulted in grain weight per panicle decrease.
