Abstract:
Seed viability of 13 137 accessions in 21 crops was monitored after storage for 12-17 years in Hebei Genebank,China.More than 94.5% accessions still maintained high germination percentage(GP)(over 80%).The GP of 292 accessions, accounting for 2% in total monitoring accessions, declined significantly from over 80% to under 70%.The change tendencies of seed viability of different crops were not completely same after storage.Mean GP declined significantly in oats and winter wheat parents after storage. Many factors including different varieties in the same crop, different types in buckwheat and winter wheat and corn, different storing sets in oat, different harvesting years in summer soybean, resulted in obvious difference of GP after storage.Mean GP of white corn declined significantly compared with yellow corn after storage, but further experiments with more accessions need to be done in order to test its universality.
