Abstract: Maize stalk rot is not only widespread in China, but also a worldwide disease, which seriously affects the yield and quality of maize. Its distribution and loses caused by the disease, its pathogenic microorganisms and their identification and the evaluation for resistant germplasm resources are briefly discussed. It is indicated that the linkage between the resistance evaluation and breeding is not sufficiently close. The research progresses in genetic regulation and molecular biology of the disease resistance in maize are introduced, and some reference suggestions for further research are put forward.
