Abstract: A solution experiment was carried out to study the effects of different sulfur concentration( 0.01-32 mmol/L) on potassium uptake and accumulation of flue-cured tobacco.Potassium uptake in plants parts as well as in whole plants followed a sigmoidal curve, accurately discribed by a logistic equation. The results indicated that the potassium contents were increased and the potassuium uptake and accumulation rate of flue-cured tobacco were improved with the increase of sulfur concentration from 0.01 mmol/L to 2 mmol/L.Further increase in sulfur concentration( 4-8 mmol/L) had no significant influence on the potassium contents of flue-cured tobacco plants parts and whole plant but resulted in a decrease of dry matter accumulation of flue-cured tobacco and that resulted in the maximum daily uptake rate and accumulation of potassium in flue-cured tobacco plants parts significant decrease.Potassium contents, maximum daily potassium uptake rate and maximum potassium accumulation of flue-cured tobacco plants parts and whole plant in higher sulfur concentration( 16-32 mmol/L) were significantly lower than other treatments. That were caused by the decrease of potassium contents ane dry matter accumulation of 16 and 32 mmol/L treatments. The increase of sulfur concentration from 0.01 mmol/L to 4 mmol/L promoted the distribution of potassium to leaves of fluecured tobcco but further increase in sulfur concentration resulted in the distribution ratio decrease.Optimal potassium of flue-cured tobacco uptake rate and accumulation were observed when sulfur concentration in the cultural solution was 2 mmol/L.
