Abstract: Under field conditions, the large-spike winter wheat variety Lankao Aizao 8 was used to investigate thechanges of spike dffferentiation and cardorr nitrogen metalroli in main culm and tillers I and II,and the physiologicaleffects of plantira density on above characters. The results showed that the difference of spike differentiation between mainstem and tillers was little drring floret initiation, but became larger afterwards. The spike dffferentiation proeess of tillerswas lagged with the increase of density. The content of water soluble carlrohydrate(WSC)and carbon to nitrogen ratio(C/ N)were better under D2 planting density( 262. 5 x 104 plant/ ha),and showd large dffference in main cuhn and tillerswith a order of culm> tillers I >fillers II.The content of nitrogen decreased with the increase of density, lxrt the dffeences was obviorxs between main stem and tillers. This indicated that the competition superiority of main culm couldeasily carse the carbon malnutrition and the imbalance of carlrrnitrogen metabolism in tillers, which enlarged the dfffeonce between main culm and tillers and finally led to the death of tillers.
