Abstract: This paper using the summer maize hybrids Zhengdan958 as the experimental material, the effects of dif 2 ferent concentrations of KCl on the aging seeds germination of maize and some physiological characteristics including the activities of antioxidase and dehydrogenase, the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA),soluble sugar and soluble protein were analyzed. The results showed that 0. 1 - 10.0 mmol/L KCl treatments could increase the germination potential, the vigor index and dry weight of seedlings of maize .It was also observed that the activities of antioxidase and dehydrogenase and the content of soluble sugar and soluble protein increased, but the content of MDA decreased. The results indicated that KCltreatments enhanced antioxidation level, mitigated lipid peroxidation, maintenanced the integrity of plasma mem-brane and improved substance metabolism rate of germinating seeds, and this might be the physiological mechanismof the aging maize seeds germination accelerated by potassium.
