Abstract: The experiment was employed with main plot of plant density(low, medium, and high respectively),sub-plot of cultivar(CF008,Zhengdan 958,Jinhai 5 respectively),studied the effect of different density on canopy structure, yield, water use efficiency(WUE) and recovery of N fertilizer(RNF). The objective to obtain high yield, high water and N efficiency simultaneously through regulating canopy structure under suitable planting density. The main results showed that the high-yielding canopy structure was obtained under both low and medium densities of the three cultivars. Percent transmission of ear layer leaf was high, and LAI developmental dynamic were rational, andgrain yield andgrain number per ear were high because of the even light distribution within canopy under both low and medium densities. Water consumption increased with the increase in density, but WUE was higher under medium density. Shoot N,N uptake efficiency(NUPE),N use efficiency(NUE),and RNF were significantly higher under low or medium densities for three cultivars. Our results confirmed that proper higher planting density can in-creasegrain yield and efficiency of water and N,and proper planting density of CF008,Zhengdan 958 and Jinhai 5 were below 11. 25×104,9.75×104,8. 25×104plants/ha respectively.
