Abstract: Leafy vegetables easily accumulating heavy metal to exceeded standard amount. Soil culture experiments were performed to study the control measures and characteristics of heavy metals copper, zinc, lead and cadmium uptake and accumulation in spinach. The results showed that spinach shoot Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd concentrationswere significantly increased with the increasing concentration of heavy metals. With the extension of spinach growingperiod, shoot concentrations of heavy metals increased distinctly. Only a small fraction of heavy metals in the soilcould be absorbed by the root of spinach. Cu, Pb element were mainly accumulated in spinach roots, little could bemigrated to the stems and leaves. Zn element was absorbed by spinach root, more than half can be migrated to stem.Cd was absorbed by spinach root, and nearly half could be migrated to the stems and leaves, the half could be remained in the roots. Compared with the control, application of lime reduced Zn concentration and Zn uptake in spinach shoot respectively.
